2. What is the difference?

The standard product requires an activation code which is obtained from this web site, a process that requires internet access. This can be a problem for ships at sea.
The Ship-Board version is only supplied on CD and has a special activation process not requiring internet access, hence ideal for ships at sea. The product is supplied with activation instructions printed on the CD slipcase.
